What is ESD (Electro Static Discharge)?

When two electrically charged objects, such as the human body and an electronic device come into contact with each other, static electricity is discharged. This phenomenon is called ESD (Electrostatic Discharge).

ESD generated from the human body can be of the order of several thousand volts. This high voltage pulse enters the electronic device that is touched, resulting in a malfunction or destruction of the IC circuits inside it.

In order to prevent the destruction of a product or system due to the intrusion of ESD into an electronic device that was touched, it is necessary to install countermeasure components that suppress or remove ESD.

What is ESD EVA foam?

ESD EVA foam is made from ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), a lightweight and flexible foam material. The addition of conductive or dissipative materials provides the anti-static properties that protect against ESD. ESD EVA foam is commonly used in packaging and transport applications where the foam is required to provide cushioning as well as anti-static protection.

ESD EVA foam is a specialized type of foam that is designed to prevent Electro Static Discharge (ESD) and protect sensitive electronic components. ESD EVA foam also known as Anti-static EVA foam.

ESD EVA foam is commonly used in electronic manufacturing and assembly applications, as well as in shipping and packaging to protect electronic devices during storage and transportation.

China has emerged as a major manufacturer of ESD EVA foam or anti-static EVA foam, with many companies specializing in producing high-quality foam products for a variety of industries.

ESD EVA foam manufacturers in China use a variety of materials to produce EVA foam products that provide reliable protection against ESD. Polyurethane foam is a common material used in the production of anti-static or Conductive EVA foam, as it has excellent cushioning properties and can be easily shaped and cut to fit specific applications.

In addition to traditional EVA foam materials, some anti-static EVA foam manufacturers in China also produce foam products using conductive materials, such as carbon or metal. These conductive EVA foams are designed to provide a path for static charges to dissipate, reducing the risk of damage to electronic components. Conductive EVA foam products are often used in applications where there is a high risk of ESD, such as in clean rooms and electronic assembly facilities.

ESD EVA foam manufacturers in China offer a wide range of foam products to meet the diverse needs of their customers. Some of the most common types of ESD EVA foam products include:

  1. ESD EVA foam sheets:These EVA foam sheets are available in various thicknesses and sizes and can be easily cut to fit specific applications.

  2. ESD EVA foam trays:These EVA foam trays are designed to hold and protect electronic components during assembly and transport.

ESD EVA foam is a specialized type of foam that is designed to reduce or eliminate electrostatic discharge (ESD), which can damage electronic components. The way ESD EVA foam works depends on the specific type of foam used and the application it is used for. However, in general, ESD EVA foam works by providing a path for static electricity to safely dissipate, rather than building up and discharging as a spark.

Conductive EVA foam is one type of anti-static EVA foam that works by allowing static electricity to flow through it. This type of foam contains conductive particles, such as carbon or metal that provides a path for static charges to be safely dissipated. Conductive EVA foam is commonly used in electronic packaging and as a cushioning material for delicate electronic components.

Conductive EVA foam sheet:

1. Surface Resistivity : 103-105 Ω/in2,

2. Volume Resistivity : 103-105 Ω/in2,

3.  Abrasive Potential : < 50V,

Technical index for ESD EVA and Conductive EVA foam as below:

Data sheet
Property CV   Series (Conductive) DV   Series (Disipative)
Color Black Black
Surface Resistivity 103-104 Ω/in2 104-109 Ω/in2
Volume Resistivity 103-104 Ω/in2 104-109 Ω/in2
Abrasive Potential < 50V < 100V
Attenuation Half-Time < 1.0 s < 1.0 s

In summary, ESD EVA foam works by providing a safe path for static electricity to dissipate, rather than building up and discharging as a spark, thus protecting electronic components from ESD damage. The specific type of ESD EVA foam used depends on the application and the level of protection required.
